Mission Statement

It is our vision that every child who experiences trauma is heard, helped, and healed.

Remembering the Past Embracing the Future

Child Protect was incorporated as one of the first Children’s Advocacy Centers nationally in November 1989. We were established as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit to work alongside the Alabama Department of Human Resources, law enforcement, and the Office of the District Attorney in cases of child sexual and physical abuse, and that partnership is still at the heart of everything we do.
We are a partner agency of the River Region United Way, United Ways of Alabama, and member of the Alabama Network of Children’s Advocacy Centers.

A Permanent Home

For its first fifteen years, Child Protect did not have a building of its own. That changed in June 2004, when a gift from the Robert and Charlotte Lowder Foundation made it possible to purchase a permanent facility dedicated entirely to helping children across Montgomery and the River Region. At the Lowder family’s request, the building was named the Buddy Van Morgan Child Protect Building, in memory of Buddy Morgan, son of Vannah and Eddie Norrell, and brother of Jannah Morgan Bailey, who served as executive director at the time. Buddy lost his battle with cancer in 2003 and is remembered for his love and commitment to children in Montgomery. In 2018, the Jeanne Drummond Annex opened, honoring Montgomery community volunteer Jeanne Drummond and adding a conference room and additional offices. During the 2018 renovation more than twenty local businesses, foundations, and individuals provided funds, materials, and manpower to complete the building we now call home: Kate Vance through the generosity of Gibson Vance and the Southern Trial Lawyers Association; The Kiwanis Club of Montgomery; the Alabama Power Foundation; the Daniel Jackson Foundation; Working Woman’s Home Association; The Poarch Bank of Creek Indians; Aronov Homes; The Alabama Civil Justice Foundation; The City of Montgomery; Kam and Patric Sidhu; The ALFA Foundation; The Montgomery County Commission; Dr. and Mrs. David Bronner; Leadership of Montgomery Legacy Class XXXVII Team 5; Warren Marshall, Marshall Design-Build; Edward Brummal, PWBA Architects; and Character @ Heart.
